African Bushcraft skills (3 days)

Join us on this exciting 3 day adventure as we camp out in the coastal bush of Africa to learn essential bushcraft survival skills. The beautiful property has a private beach surrounded by tropical jungles and abundant wildlife. We will be hiking out in search of a water source where we will make camp for the 2 nights. You will learn how to effectively function in the bush and gain the skills needed to cover shelter, fire, water, food, dealing with wild animals and First-Aid. Students are allowed to bring any gear they desire keeping in mind that we hike in and out with it. The aim is for you to learn real life-saving skills, have fun and connect with nature. Bushcraft Survival course details:

  • Psychological and physiological effects and how to manage them
  • The "rules" of survival 
  • Build a shelter only using plants - Keep animals out and warmth in!
  • Drink water from plants and creeks, learn how to make it safe to drink
  • Fire - Make fire without a lighter or matches. Learn the ancient skills of friction fire as well as modern techniques
  • Construct a simple but effective snare trap
  • Catch fish for dinner
  • Basic animal tracking
  • Bush walking and hiking
  • Make campfire cookware and utensils from natural materials
  • Learn about the most useful bushcraft tools, knots and making rope from plants
  • Learn to identify basic wild edibles
  • Key wilderness First-Aid techniques to deal with fractures, bleeding, snake and spider bites, animal bites, hypothermia, dehydration and heat stroke
  • How to respond to wild animal encounters and keep mosquitoes away
  • Learn to make an effective rescue signal for help

What to Bring:

  • Your favorite knife. We recommend a large full tang knife or machete
  • Water bottle
  • Headlamp or flashlight
  • Gloves are optional
  • Lightweight clothing: Columbia or North Face style long pants and safari style shirts are ideal
  • Closed toe shoes (sturdy boots that support the ankles are best)
  • Raincoat just in case
  • Backpack to carry all the gear
  • Sleeping bag or blanket
  • Hand line and small fish hooks. We can provide these if you do not have them
  • Mosquito spray and sunscreen (note that there is not many mosquitoes on the property)
  • Tent, jungle hammock, tarp or sleep under the stars
  • Any other camping gear that you want to bring

Cancellation policy:

Payment required in full to secure dates and availability. Refund of fees are available if notified more than 2 weeks in advance of course start date. There will be a 3% fee withheld from refund to cover payment/transfer costs. If you cancel within 2 weeks of scheduled date of training no refund will be provided, however we can provide you with a credit applicable for the same course at a different date. Due to minimum class size requirements we might need to cancel a course,  if so we will provide a full refund or offer an alternative course date.
