ARCHERY ELK HUNTING COURSE - SISTERS, OR. July 25-27th 2025 (7 SPOTS LEFT)

This course is designed to prepare the solo DIY public land Elk hunter to be a more effective bow hunter. As a group we will be in the mountains scouting and simulating an Elk hunt.

Instruction is led by bowhunters Cole Wilks and Joel van der Loon. Cole is a coach for the Hunt Warz TV show and part of the Elk bro’s team. He is an expert Elk caller and has competed in the world Elk calling championships.

Hunting is a sacred ritual that is so much more than just the kill, it is about embracing the spiritual essence of the entire experience from scouting to butchering.

No hunting experience required to take part. Even experienced hunters will walk away better hunters from this. We will not be hunting during this course but will be simulating an Elk hunt in the mountains preparing you for the upcoming season.

Group size: $700/person. 10 person max.

Dates: July 25-27th. (7 Spots left)

 Start time 9am. Day 3 finish time approximately 2-3pm

Location: Kalamataka Ranch, Sisters, OR (After booking we will send you directions)

3 meals a day, water, camp sites, ablutions, and instruction are included.

Curriculum

  • Department of Fish and Wildlife rules and regulations.

  • Understanding Elk habitat, rut behavior, and patterns from August through October

  • How to find good Elk habitat to hunt

  • Scouting: E-scouting and boots on the ground tracking. How to read sign, topography, and wind to find Elk

  • Hunting techniques and strategies

  • Elk calling techniques and timing. Vocal and non vocal communications

  • How to get within close range and the characteristics required of a good setup for the shot

  • Blood trailing and grid searching in bad conditions after the shot

  • Processing and field dressing Elk

  • Packing out strategies and techniques

  • meat care and cooking

What to bring:

  • Warm clothes. Temps approximately 75 degrees during the day and can drop to the 30’s at night. Camo not required but Earth tones recommended.

  • Camping gear (tent, sleeping bag)

  • Water bottle

  • Mug, fork, spoon, bowl, and plate

  • Small day pack

  • Headlamp

  • Hiking boots or similar

  • Snacks

  • writing equipment for notes

  • Calls. (Bugle tube and diaphragm calls. Feel free to bring open reed calls or any other calls you want to use in the field. For beginners we recommend the red Phelps maverick diaphragm)

    Optional gear to bring

  • Binoculars

  • ONX hunting app on your smart phone or a tablet. You can start a free 7 day trial the day before the course starts

CANCELLATION POLICY: Payment required in full to secure dates and availability. If cancellation is at least 60 days prior to the course start date 85% of course cost is refunded. If cancellation is at least 30 days prior to course start date 50% of course cost is refunded. If cancellation is within 30 days of course start date no cost will be refunded. Due to minimum class size requirements we might need to cancel a course, if so we will provide a full refund or offer an alternative course date.
